Do you remember the movie “Ground Hog Day” with Bill Murray? The main character, a weather man from Philadelphia, has to repeat the same pitiful day over and over until he finally gets everything perfect.

This Ground Hog Day, why not have yourself a perfect day? I challenge you on Feb 2 to give it your very best effort to have the perfect day.

Here’s how it works: Make a list of 10 or so things that, if you did them all, would constitute a perfect day for you, and on Ground Hog Day, this Feb. 2, make it happen. I’m not talking about a dream list (Climb Mt. Everest, Get a Raise, Catch all Traffic Lights Green), but rather a list of things you know you should do, but rarely do. For instance, here’s my list from last year:

1. Have a morning devotion upon waking
2. Eat a healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner with no junk food at all
3. Take my vitamins and exercise
5. Shower, dress nicely and fix my hair and makeup as if I care what I look like
5. Get through the day without letting a hurtful or otherwise sinful remark fly
6. Be productive and don’t waste time on mindless television, magazines or Internet browsing
7. Demonstrate my love to the people in my path that day and spend quality time, even if just 1/2 an hour, with my kids and spouse
8. Pick up after myself and maintain a clean home
9. Don’t spend any unbudgeted money
10. End my day with prayer and scripture and be in bed by 11pm.

None of these things in and of themselves seem too daunting, but put them all together in one day... and, well... I don't know! I've never put them all together in one day! I always seem to screw up at least one of them (#s 5 and 6 are killers!).

Now here's the catch: If you don't achieve perfection on Ground Hog Day, you have to try it again on Feb 3, and, you guessed it, Feb. 4, 5, 6 and so on until you achieve your perfect day or the month ends. The experiment part is finding out how long it takes you to have your perfect day. I sure hope I can nail mine the first day because I'm already exhausted thinking about it (but then again, it is past my bedtime).

When you complete your perfect day, email me at donna@onmyownnow.com and I'll enter you into a drawing for whatever great "I did it!" prize we have slated for 2011.

Join the fun by posting your perfect day list on the Ground Hog Day Experiment Facebook group page. Everyone who posts their list will automatically be entered in a drawing for a whatever great participation prize we have lined up for 2011. So, even good intentions can pay off in this experiment.

Add to the fun by keeping us posted on your progress or getting together a local group of friends to keep each other accountable for the first week of the experiment.
Hope you'll join me and tell your friends about it too!

until the 2011 experiment begins.
